Thailand |
Competitors take part in ox-cart races in Thailand's Phetchaburi province some 130 km (81 miles) south of Bangkok, February 16, 2010. The annual event, which locals date back to the time of King Rama V, is a recreational activity for local farmers during post harvest season in Thailand. (Reuters)

How would you rather hear it?

While tidying up some loose papers today, I remembered an aunty who lived four doors away. When I was 18, I got my hands on a business opportunity called Omega Trend. That aunty became my regular customer although she never used the things she bought. I could spot her purchases still in their boxes ...more info>>>

The Symbol of Completeness

I’d say that Chinese New Year is like Thanksgiving for Americans, as most have to have a turkey as part of the feast. As for the Chinese, and not so full breed Chinese like us, my dad would search for his chicken or duck every Chinese New Year.
Not hard to find this in the supermarket [...]...more info>>>

Redesigning Sinosplice
|
China |
I meant to mention this sooner, but as is so often the case around here, I got caught up doing other things. Most people in the China blogsphere are well-aware of Sinosplice, a blog and Chinese learning resource by Shanghai-based expat John Pasden.
Last week Sinosplice.com went live with a completel...more info>>>

The new year so far has been cold and windy with snow flurries and sleet. I've stayed in my nest close to woodstove. Yesterday there was a break in the weather, so I decided to venture out and visit the local shrine for Hatsumode (first shrine visit of the year). The tori were still decked out in th...more info>>>

Seollal, Korean Lunar New Year
|
South Korea |
I finally got to see a traditional Korean holiday celebration. This weekend was Lunar New Year, known to most people outside of Korea as Chinese New Year, but known here as Seollal. We entered the year of the Tiger and left behind the year of the Ox.Saturday evening, after a day of badly needed apar...more info>>>

Our escape to somewhere with heat

After Becky left for Shanghai, I was left to mope around Buyeo and puzzle about how people can stand to move to a foreign country and live in a tiny place on their own. I found the 4 nights alone to be mind numbingly dull. There's only so much TV you can watch after all, and I've already read all th...more info>>>

Talented Girl by Ekaterina Kuzmenko
I consider myself very lucky to have so many talented sisters. My younger sister at Bee’s Design made this leather handbag for me. My GI Joe sister gave me the elephant patch that we found in her storage while we were cleaning up and I thought it’d...more info>>>
