Buddha's Palm
|
South Korea |
There's a great description of the Sino-Korean expression "??? ??? ?? ??" / "You are on Buddha's palm" going on at Amanda Takes Off that's well worth checking out. For background I'll tell you that it involves Sun Wukong (???; known as Monkey King in the West) from the tale 'Journey to the West' (?...more info>>>

The End Is Near
|
South Korea |
I will be departing from Korea on Nov. 21st. I haven't quite come to terms with this, and people keep asking me if I'm excited. Why do I feel guilty saying no. Yea, Thanksgiving and Christmas will be great. It'll be great to see some family and friends whom I haven't seen in over a year. But, I know...more info>>>

A Different Politic
|
Vietnam |
With two opening lines joking about politic, my review of Asia 63 turned into a political outrage. I don’t mind discussing politics, but I chose to stay out of the Vietnam-War-related argument. As I have predicted, the comments got nasty. It’s really a damn shame that we can’t agre...more info>>>

Noisy birthday at Yokogawa Cinema
|
Japan |
This week, Yokogawa Cinema is celebrating 10 years of showing many films that would never get shown anywhere else in Hiroshima to, it must be said, an often almost empty house. In celebration of their passion and staying power, a late night screening of Olivier Assayas' Sonic Youth pic Noise was h...more info>>>

Catch the dolphin

East Timor |
I’m not particularly keen on the whole “travelling” thing. There’s something I don’t enjoy about the feeling of being in a place and having no idea where to go or what to do. When I see backpackers traipsing around with their guidebooks in hand and huge bags slung over their shoulders, I feel sorry...more info>>>

EVN says that somebody can steal electricty outside of house
|
Vietnam |
Today we visited EVN to finally complain about the August electricity bill. Of course it was a bit frustrating but at the moment, I do not have to pay my electricity bills until the problem is resolved.
In short, they went through the same excuses that the workers who checked my meter went through....more info>>>

Monday will be the 20th anniversay of the fall of the Berlin wall and this news seems to be all all the rage on CNN but hardly a blip on the radar here in Munich. I've had one conversation on this event in nearly two months here and it was at a local cafe here in German suburbia off Swanseestraße. I...more info>>>
